gingerbeard: getting wood (Default)

obsessively detailed.

1. What does their bedroom look like?
decor: a bed covered in quilts and afghans (which scatter the rest of the house too, inheritance from family and/or gifts), a hearth (victors houses in seven are full of them), photos of his sons and his late parents and wife. he decorates with his own carvings sparingly and tends to only keep ones he makes with the boys in mind or to specifically fill a space. he'll also have something from his wedding day but i haven't decided what seven's traditions are re: that so check back later for details.

cleanliness: he doesn't try to make a mess but he's a hard-working father of twin boys there are nights he can't be bothered to put everything back where it belongs before collapsing into bed. he tries to clean once a week but only manages to do so about half the time. sometimes the babysitter will do him a solid and tidy up.

2. Do they have any daily rituals?

3. Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
all the physical exertion involved in logging, which he does almost every day except in the winter. he's not notably fast but very strong and sturdy.

4. What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?
who... the fuck is in his kitchen and why. whatever. he'd try and shimmy in and fail and just be like okay you do your thing i'll come back later, if he was just making food for himself. if he's feeding his sons he'll politely ask them to make room. if the busy people are his sons he'll help or watch if he's not needed.

5. Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
provided he's not too exhausted he always showers after a day of work. this beard ain't self-cleaning. his house is as tidy as one would expect a single father with two growing sons to be. a victor's house has enough space at least that there's very little clutter. when he's not using them to teach his kids, the axes, saws, etc are under lock and key in a shed. they also aren't allowed in his workshop without his supervision. and even then pointy things anywhere he'd really rather they have a pillow fight in the living room.

6. Eating habits and sample daily menu
meeeeat. he needs a lot of protein to keep him going and can afford it, and he has to feed his kids decently so all that other good stuff too like vegetables and bread and grains. meat's the star though. MEAT. bacon. sorry i'm getting distracted. he'll sometimes forget to eat because of work or sad but at least one his little blighters is good at bringing him a dish of leftovers or something they made. every so often he buys them maple sweets.

7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time

8. Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
indulgences should be earned as a reward for good work or good deeds. he's very, very careful not to spoil his children, and doesn't allow them any more freedoms than the others in the district. if he dies, which is entirely possible between the capitol and his refusal to stop working as he's approaching the 50 mark, his kids won't inherit his victor's allowance. they have to know how to work and how to ration. they are already very privileged by having a roof over their head and heat throughout the winter. blight also doesn't want them to be alienated from their peers by wealth -- and has had to become a keener judge of character because even people from his own district are capable of using him (as are their children).

his favourite indulgence is time with his kids, where he's not accomplishing anything but not worrying about not accomplishing anything. throwing snowballs, making forts, eating dinner, hearing about school, reading with them. anything that makes him that happy has to be an indulgence he figures.

9. Makeup?
a thin sheen of manly sweat counts.

all right he really really hates anything on his face that isn't dirt or rain or snow or nature. he doesn't keep the beard to have as a shield against stylist's brushes but it helps some. they cover up the scars on his hands with concealer and foundation, or ask him to wear gloves, and put whatever they need to on his face if he has to be in front of cameras but given that HE HATES THAT and isn't popular enough anyway, generally, doesn't happen often.

10. Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
it's difficult for him to relax in social situations where being in a social situation is the end goal. he gets fidgety and more suspicious than he likes. given he subscribes to the school of thought that man is inherently good, being distrustful is an active choice that he hates making.

11. Intellectual pursuits?
WOOD

12. Favorite book genre?
children's books. he just likes reading to his kids. he avoids anything that's obviously capitol propaganda or rewrites it. he's not a writer by any means but kids are kids and they don't care. he likes to write their names in too. jesus god he's such a dad.

13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
heterosexual and open-minded. demisexual is not a thing but sexual attraction is less important to him than emotional connection; he wouldn't act on the former without the latter. in general, he does not think of sexual orientation as a choice or really anyone's business except an individual's to express as they like as long as it doesn't infringe on anyone else's freedoms. seeing as that's the capitol's jam, though...

14. Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
plenty of scars from working, especially on his hands and arms. i'll put a list of definite ones below that have shown up in threads at some point or another:

1. a thin white line on the back of his right hand/wrist, about 3 inches long
2. raised scar tissue between the middle and index fingers of his left hand where he has no sensation

all in all he's just lucky to have all ten fingers at his age in seven.

aside from that he's quite healthy. slightly nearsighted so he wears glasses when he reads (if he can find them). he's moderately allergic to shellfish which kind of sucks cause he loves four but what can you do (it was also really weird to find out).

15. Biggest and smallest short term goal?

16. Biggest and smallest long term goal?
protect his kids, re: both. with the quell coming up, short term and long term are pretty much the same thing. he feels fortunate as fuck they are too young to be reaped by the 75th (scared the quell wrinkle might be reaping from victors' families, or that the capitol will rig it just for entertainment value) but that doesn't mean they're safe. they're his entire reason for joining the rebellion. his goal is to further that, and ensure their safety in doing so, whether he lives or not (and he knows he won't live).

17. Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress
work boots, jeans, flannels, big sensible fluffy coats in the cold. as long as it's sturdy and comfortable enough he's happy to wear it, and he'll put on the monkey suits without complaint for the capitol but doesn't actually enjoy getting all gussied up or the attention it gets him. as for rituals, he will find cereal in his pockets sometimes from the boys if he's been forgetting to eat -- or he'll do it himself if he misses them. if you see him yawning in the background of an interview it's actually him failing to stealthily eat whatever the panem equivalent of cap'n crunch is.

18. Favorite beverage?
no it's too hard. hot chocolate as a treat for him and the boys (and whoever else wants some) in the winter, hot cider, hard cider for anything alcoholic (very rarely), and milk for strong bones and teeth.

19. What do they think about before falling asleep at night?
nothing. he works and parents to exhaustion so he doesn't have to. when he can't help it, he diverts his thoughts to woodworking projects he is working on or wants to work on.

20. Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?

21. Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
he likes simple, meaningful gestures, like holding hands and eye contact. kind of an all or nothing guy. consent is sexy. he would rather ask for permission than forgiveness. dirty, sweaty, hardworking and physical women are especially sexy to him. forwardness is nice considering he's so polite he cockblocks himself but pushiness is the exact opposite.

he's not into anything the capitol considers attractive or fashionable.

22. Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
draw stick people that somehow turn out to be his family and house, including his late wife. oops he made himself sad. then he'll take out the little knife he keeps on him in case he runs into wood and carve shapes into the pencil, and snap off the lead.

23. How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?

24. Is there one subject of study that they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
he's a pretty decent artist, but he prefers to work with a knife instead of a pencil or paintbrush. he is not the world's best speller and his grammar sucks. their/there, you're/your, affect/effect -- homophones are his absolute downfall.

25. How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
he just wants two alive and psychologically undamaged sons, that's all he cares about.

26. Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t workout?
as far as contingency plans go he's had a will in place since his kids were born. in the event of his death, guardianship goes to his late wife's parents. he has money set aside to lessen the burden of two extra mouths to feed if it ever comes to that.

27. What is their biggest regret?

28. Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy?

29. Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)

30. Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)

31. Most prized possession?
his wedding thing. could be a ring, could be something else, dunno. still settling on that, but whatever it winds up being, it's that.

32. Thoughts on material possessions in general?

33. Concept of home and family?
seven and everything seven: evergreen trees, beardy men, brawny women, work songs, maple syrup everything. that's his home, his friends and his sons are his family. all of victor's village could burn down and he might miss some items of sentimental value, but as long as he's got his kids and his tree sap he's home.

34. Thoughts on privacy? (Are they a private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?)
blight's not good at sharing, mostly because he doesn't know what other people care about, and knows that secrets are dangerous weapons to people who know how to wield them waaaay better than he does. so he keeps to himself but isn't withholding if someone asks and they're genuinely interested. capitol interest, where they want to collect facts like they're making a victor's edition of trivial pursuit is different, and since that makes him so uncomfortable anyway, he gets in his own way before he can reveal very much.

35. What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?

36. What makes them feel guilty?

37. Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making?
emotional. blight relies on his instincts, gut feelings, etc when it comes to who he trusts or how to help his tributes. even if it's not considered a smart choice, if he believes it's the right one, he'll make it.

38. Would they consider themselves a Type A or Type B personality?

39. What recharges them when they’re feeling drained?

40. Would you say that they have a superiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither?

41. How misanthropic are they?
not very. he's as optimistic as one can be living as a victor in panem, which is really more of a hopeful realism. he doesn't fake it either which isn't altogether common for a victor and he gets called naive and stupid for it, among other things, but his philosophy is one of sticks and stones. he cherishes kind words and lets cruel ones slide right off. to him, cruelty is learned (and necessarily, unfortunately). generosity, humility, virtuosity, sincerity, etc, have to be unlearned or torqued into something useful, and when they aren't they're exceptional.

42. Hobbies?
carving, cooking and baking since he can afford the ingredients. he'll usually make enough to give some away.

43. How far did they get in formal education? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?

44. Religion?
blight is spiritual but not religious. he believes in the soul and the body rejoining the earth after death. he doesn't believe in reincarnation, but in a dispersed essence within everything.

45. Superstitions or views on the occult?

46. Do they express their thoughts through words or deeds?
he tries to express his thoughts through words but usually um it doesn't come out good-sounding. he'll supplement it with deeds or go for deeds entirely, but he's also wary of infringing upon anyone's pride or, worse, pushing their boundaries.

47. If they were to fall in love, who (or what) is their ideal?
kindness. not necessarily a pleasant disposition or being nice to people though those are attractive traits to him as well, but she could be a deadpan snarker as long as her heart is in a good place. and must love kids, that's kind of non-negotiable.

48. How do they express love?

49. If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?

50. Is this person afraid of dying? Why or why not?
